1.9Moving beyond Part II

In the first part, we explain points related to the basic characteristics of organisms. In the second part, we examine the constituents of organisms by focusing on their roles in the construction of cells and organisms. These constituents include biomolecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and polysaccharides that function as genetic material, enzymes, biomembranes, and reserve substances/cell wall material. These biomolecules are explained in detail in Chapter 6. In the second part, we will also discuss the basic structure and function of the cell with regard to these substances. A detailed examination of cell structure is provided in Chapter 11.
