24Biological Evolution and the Genome

DNA carries genetic information that controls the traits of living organisms. As more and more genetic information is decoded and knowledge is accumulated, we are now able to make new discoveries, which was not possible with conventional research. By applying the genetic information, new research arenas can be explored, and at the same time, findings from previous studies can be reassessed. From the perspective that the genome contains all the genetic information required to form organisms, this chapter discusses a range of topics from biological classification and evolution to the future of life science based on genomics.
